Black Mountain, North Carolina
A major consideration in mountaintop living is easy access
on and off the mountain. At Creston, all home sites will be
only a few minutes from the entrance. Just eight miles from
the Creston gate is the town of Black Mountain. First settled
in the 1780’s,
the community was originally known as Grey Eagle. The name
was changed in the 1800s to note the lofty mountain range
just five miles to the north.
In
addition to life's usual necessities, the historic downtown
has a variety of shops and galleries featuring local artists,
antique stores, cafes for lunch, restaurants for dinner,
a museum, Performing Arts Center, public library and a
wonderful, old-fashioned hardware store.
There are also numerous conference centers located within
a few miles of the town, including Ridgecrest, Blue Ridge
Assembly, The Cove, and Christmount. Adjoining Black Mountain
is the village of Montreat with Montreat College, a small
liberal arts college.
Black Mountain also hosts a variety of festivals throughout
the year. A complete listing of events and activities can
be found at the Black Mountain Chamber of Commerce.
